Talking about Matin and shoot now~
Matin, or Blind Justice in general is very medieval fantasy or so to say. That being said I really want to get a shoot with nice gothic location and namely also with a pretty stained glass window. I was so excited when we did the shoot at Bendigo and sad when I found out we weren't allowed on second floor where the stained glass and pipe organ are. After that I tried to look around if I can find any place where we can shoot with pretty stained glass window. Sydney has a few places from seeing other cosplayers photo, but alas I can't take long leave for SMASH trip in August so no shoot either ><; I can get them photoshop and composite to the photo but I want to be able to play with the light that comes through the pretty colourful glass, which will be hard to do. In my desperation this idea born, projection! I am so happy with this idea because on broad possibilities of pretty images I can choose and use!
At first the idea is just to do upgrade on armours and other little bits only, but since I want to get other images with Ristaccia version Matin, I carelessly decided, I want to get new Trisagion ready for this shoot too! And the hell began LOL
Elias already took time way before to slowly work on the base, and he did amazing job on it! My finishing is still need some patches and polishing, but due to lack of time it will do for the shoot.
The Ristaccia gems: They are not HARD to make by theory, it was frustrating because I somehow epically failed my first batch with my amazing magic of tragic comedy and ruined the mould. So I need to get another mould because trying to clear the mess I caused on first mould can send my hands to eternal rest. So the second cast was finally a normal thing that resin casting should be, it worked! And I have spare I keep for Apocalypse too. Because of the sizing and some scratch, the resin for trisagion ristaccia piece look horrible up close, but I can't cast another one as it means buying another bottle for just one tiny gem ><;
The blade: OMG Elias, I LOVE THE BLADE, IT IS SHINY! It has a nice blue tint and reflective, it feels like a crystal blade X3
Ramblings about the blade~ I first made my Trisagion back in early 2010, the only colour reference was the half matin half nox image from Ristaccia booklet. The full body Matin was very small that you can't really tell T_T Okay and so I made the MISTAKE! Due to the pale saturation in ristaccia album booklet, I was under the impression Trisagion's blade is pale blue. This is also caused by other 2 Ristaccia swords, in which Apocalypse has black blade and Tyrfing has gold blade, following the trend I was so sure Trisagion will be pale blue just like the other 2 swords following the 'image' of the wielder. It didn't help that in standard Ristaccia album cover which is more clear in colour, Matin is the only one not holding her sword. The next decisive colour reference comes a while later in limited BJ drama CD Matin's CD, in which the colour is darker blue, not as pale as shown in ristaccia booklet (due to old book look in the booklet) and the blade.. is standard silver blade... But then even though it is not accurate, I grew fond of the pale blue blade lol and Elias also thought it is a nice modification. I want to be accurate but at the same time some modification does make things more interesting or better. Like Matin's hair (technically very voluminous straight hair, but to get the same volume wavy is the way to go and enhance the royal look as well), the ring on her middle finger (supposed to be black, but I prefer silver) So new Trisagion blade is pale blue, and under different lightning it can show different colours. It is like crystal/ice blade, I love it!
The hilt is surprisingly the most satisfying one that I did... lol
Either way, Even though my Matin's costume was made by mum's friend who is a seamstress, I have put so much modification and extra twists to it lol. It is also safe to say that mine was heavily based on the very early artwork of Matin, namely from the shitajiki artwork which is a very detailed one compare to current Matin's art. The pattern on her gloves is only ever that detailed in that shitajiki and I don't know how many people notice, but why I always paint my nails the coral peach, is because that's what in that illustration! Though I was failed and wear the earrings on both side when Matin is supposed to wear on right side only ;_;, but I fixed it now! (see in the photo, I didn't wear it on my left ear lol) I fixed the belt on the back, fixed the bustle to be more puffy and added extra bits on the shoes. The shoes is inaccurate bec of the heel, but when I went to get it done, it is either that or not so pointy one. The heel also adds some nice look anyway, though yeah you don't go to war with heel, but then again you don't go to war in ball gown skirt lol
After a long search, I think I'm pretty happy with this wig, and the new Dahlia hair clip works much better than the other clip X3
The only thing is I need to re-work on the arm guards, and maybe add extension to the ruffle on the chest part. After I added the chest plate it cover almost all of the ruffles DX and the arm guards probably need to make another one or experiment more to fix it right.
I also tried to fix Ristaccia version top by adding boning, but didn't work even with tape ><; I guess I just have to give up and use skin colour elastic to strap the top to the back like bra strap, as the hair cover it most of the time anyway, and strap is easily editable in photoshop.
The slides though, more than half of them were ruined since it turned out stick to each other and when we peel it apart the images blotch each other DX I guess I will do again with the colourful images with Empress Hannes next time since it fits her well too and her dress is white and projection will work well on it. I am hoping to get both Hannes and A'Milia this year from my mum's friend, I guess I am rushing things and ready to kinda retired and focus back to drawing again as hands have been slowly better.
Obviously only two photos as preview at the moment. Will update again with other photos in the future!
There is another location I have visited with Elias in hoping we can get permission to shoot there and not being asked to pay insane price for permit. I have lodged the form, fingers crossed we get it because in the past there was another cosplayer get permission to shoot Kuroshitsuji there as 'student project' ><;;;
